Macardles Historical Society is proud to announce the sponsorship of the Macardles Digital Showcase by Dundalk Credit Union, taking place on Friday, 4th July 2025 in at An Táin Arts Centre, Dundalk, Co. Louth. This event will celebrate the launch of an ambitious digitisation project dedicated to preserving and showcasing the rich heritage of the iconic Macardles Brewery.

The Macardles Digitisation Project brings to life over 160 years of brewing history in Dundalk, featuring hundreds of carefully restored photographs, documents, artefacts, labels and more. These rare materials have been meticulously archived and digitised, ensuring that this vital part of Dundalk’s industrial and cultural legacy is accessible for generations to come.

Driven by Jason McGee and Kelley O’Hanlon, the project has been a labour of love with support from DKIT, The Macardles Community and Dundalk Credit Union.

Dundalk Credit Union has stepped in as a key supporter of the initiative. Speaking on the sponsorship, Naomi O’Donoghue, Head of Sales & Business Development at Dundalk Credit Union, said:
“Dundalk Credit Union is delighted to support the Macardles Digitisation Project. The work being undertaken to restore and preserve so many artefacts from the Brewery, which is of such cultural significance to the town of Dundalk is absolutely commendable. The Credit Union was built on the strength of volunteers and we can see the huge value in the time and effort the society have taken on this project, so that our future generations can continue to share in this part of our town’s history.”

The Macardles Digital Showcase event is ticket only and will feature a presentation of the archive, visual displays and stories from former employees and local historians. It promises to be an evening of nostalgia, community pride and shared heritage. To explore the digitised artaefacts visit www.macardles.ie/archive
