As part of National Heritage Week 2025 16th to  24th August, Dundalk Tourist Office, in association with Geological Survey Ireland, is delighted to present a unique Urban Geology Field Trip through Dundalk town centre.

This year’s Heritage Week theme, “Exploring Our Foundations,” encourages communities across Ireland to look deeper at the structures, landscapes, and cultural practices that shape who we are. Dundalk’s guided geology walk will do exactly that—revealing the fascinating building blocks beneath our feet.

The walk will be led by Senior Geologist Dr. Siobhán Power, who will guide participants on a journey through time, exploring the origins and stories of the stones and geological features that form the town’s streets and buildings. Some of these materials were sourced locally, while others travelled great distances to find their place in Dundalk.
