The film Four Mothers will be screening at An Táin Arts Centre on Tuesday 30th September at 7.30pm as part of An Tain Arts Centre’s evening film club, followed by Q&A with the Filmmakers.
Four Mothers tells the story of Edward a gay Irish novelist whose career has stalled due to the demands of caring for his ailing mother Alma. He’s kept sane by a group of friends in similar situations- until those friends spontaneously decide to escape toa Pride festival in the Canaries, leaving Edward alone to care for all their mothers at once. Starring James McArdle, Fionnula Flanagan, Dearbhla Molloy
The film is co-written by Colin Thornton and Co-Written and Directed by Darren Thornton.
Darren Thornton, is an award-winning, Drogheda-based Writer / Director working across, theatre, film and TV. Four Mothers is his second feature film and premiered at the BFI London Film Festival 2024, winning the Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature Film. Darren made his television debut directing the IFTA award-winning Love is the Drug a six part comedy-drama series for RTE. His first feature film A Date for Mad Mary was produced by Element Pictures and won Best Irish Feature Film at the Galway Film Fleadh 2016. His short film Frankie (2005) which was shot in Dundalk, won the European Film Academy Award.
